WCS-2011 and J/K-Pop Tropicana event
On the 27th Feb, after much 'controversy', the J/K-POP event was held at the SMK Tropicana School. The main event was mainly the J/K-pop dance competitions, but before that they organized a mini Cosplay event in the morning. And i was invited to be a cosplay judge!! My first time doing so~ wee~ <3
The competition format went something like this:
1) 3poses from the contestants
2) a short skit (duration about 2minutes) by the contestants. The contestants will have to choose only 1 out of the 5 different themes given by the judges, and perform it on Sunday. The themes/scenes are:
BATTLE SCENE - You are fighting a Pokemon battle. You can pick 1 person to be your Pokemon (or you yourself be the Pokemon and your friend/helper is your Pokemon-master). Act out a battle scene!
ROMANCE SCENE - You are on a date. Pick a person to be your date and woo her/him. Extra points for tsundere-ness.
EMO SCENE - Your best friend/pet has just died. Grieve for them. Extra points for super emo-ness.
HORROR SCENE - You are in a haunted house filled with zombies. You try to escape it. Try to act as scared as possible, but stay in character. Extra points for dramatic death scenes.
LOL SCENE - You are a loan shark. You want to collect money from a person of your choice. Pull it off, but be as in character as possible. Extra points for being funny/make audience laugh.
Pretty interesting i should say! Thanx to a certain atok for suggesting it *winks* Unfortunately the constant date and venue change has resulted in very low number of participants. The original 15 contestants dwindled down to... just five. Oh well the 'show' still have to go on~ The judges that day was me, Yuan, and Dai (who has judging experience oohlala)
I have to say I REALLY HAD FUN being a judge!! It's a totally new experience for me, and who would understand the pain n pleasure of entering competitions more than..well.. me. *cough* Not bragging... but i think i joined n won enough for ppl to be sick of my face... which is why i plan to stop entering any for this year (with the exception of 'big' ones). So anyway the end result discussion/argumentation landed on the debate of 'self made accurate costume but OOC performance' VS. 'china-order tailored costume but awsm skit portrayal'. Interesting debate, eh?! What do u think?
Anyway in the end we chose the 3 who we think best deserve it, and they are Sebastian (my son Xajin u cosplayed Sebby so many times i wld be surprise if u didn't pull him off at demonic level), Adelle (her skit made me lol) and this red suit character i can't remember his name coz he changed character last minute. Anyway Congrats to all of you!! And omedeto judges and organizer for a noob job well done haha!
I hope i would be given the opportunity to be a cosplay judge again in the future! >o< Fufufu~
We also did a mini photoshoot at the school field to kill our boredom, with the help of Allen and Ezli as our photographer, and Yuan (Sniper RO), Xajin (Sebastian), Amy (Ciel) and me (random girl) as the subjects!
WCS-2011
Have you heard??!! A lil bird told me that Malaysia will have a representative in this year's World Cosplay Summit!!! Malaysia is the 17th country chosen to enter. As you can see proof from this website!
Personally for me it's a dream come true!! Yes i did dream there would be WCS in Malaysia someday... i just never imagined it would happen before i retire from cosplay. So i thank god and all organisers that made this happen!! Hopefully Malaysia will give their best to become a worthy competitor! woohoo~ Malaysia Boleh!
Me? of course i'll give it a try and join wololo~ *drags Yuan in the insanity*
Since the news came out pretty sudden and last minute, it poses a problem for us. Our planned GAR-PROJECTS costumes (a.k.a fully selfmade costumes that requires a lot of time and money) for ACM and AFA debut could not be finished in time... assuming prelims for WCS would be sometime April-Jun?! So yea... we're currently quite broke n too busy with college class+assignments. And WCS level requires full self-handmade costumes of duo from the same series!!! *PENING* So blablablafangurlingbla in the end we agreed upon a compromise of me making a cosplay that will compliment Yuan's already completed Xth-Form Haseo (.hack//GU + trilogy). Something crazy. Something budget friendly. Something easy and doable....
Yezzzz... something like a tentacle zombie. =w= trololo.... go us!! Project Sotong will start right after me n Yuan completed our colleges' final projects after these 2 diediedieworthy weeks. stressssss......
X___X
Anyway here's a preview of our group Yu Yu Hakusho photoshoot in January. I cosplayed as the old woman Genkai. Hope the rest of the photos be released soon!!
