TRC - Princess Tomoyo Work in Progress - part 4 & Stage Props - part 1
The cloth+interfacing pattern was sewn, cut and combined together to make the top. Then lace was sewn onto it for the line detailing.
The skirt pattern was also sewn to make a complete full circle skirt.
Added the zip at the back.
Sew the top and the skirt together and we have the complete dress! <3 This is the back view.
And this is the front view.
Made the sleeves for the inner top using leftover laces.
As we were working on the costume, we also brainstorm and draft for our skit (should we do it in the future). Recently before this we were experimenting on the usage of light and shadows based on the concept of Malaysian 'wayang kulit'.
It was really quite interesting! Despite the venue itself won't allow us to have a proper total darkness to maximise the potential of the light-shadow concept, we still roughly manage to pull it off. And we're hoping in the future we could do this again with lots of improvisation and modifications..... like for example a bigger spotlight and total darkness stage area.
We're thinking of, for example, using the flashback scene since it gives a more dramatic and surreal feel to it. And add some detailing on the screen itself instead of pure white from before. Maybe moon designs... bamboos... cloud motifs.... hrmmm....
In addition to that we also want to add the usage of UV-light effects. tried and tested.... UV-lights gives out the effects of making dark colours really dark (almost invisible) and light colours (like white) really pops out even more! Something like this.... (image googled, not mine)
So it gives a nice effect for a flashy or floaty-dreamy concept.... which suits Tomoyo's role as a dreamgazer walking through dreams and Kurogane's flashy moves which CLAMP so like to make it so fuwafuwaaaargh~
With that concept in mind we could depict Kurogane's ultimate sword slash moves (Hama Ryuuoujin) in a sense the 'dragon' seems to be alive and floating! Using white dragon motif on black screen.
Alternatively we could use the concept of Chinese Dragon Dance (usually found during Chinese New Year festival in Malaysia) by making a paper mache dragon head and trailing cloth as the body. The movements will be controlled by black pole hold by all black person. The pros will be the dragon actually moves. The cons would be the amount of space taken for the 3D head so it's hard to transport.
And finally the key scene in the Kurogane-Tomoyo relationship, which is the time Tomoyo send Kurogane off to the other dimension, to Yuuko. We're still brainstorming on how best to depict this best, and so far we only have the idea of making magic 'tentacles' falling onto Kurogane, based on the concept of a 'fishermen-setting-net-over fishes'. LOL~ That way we could use the screen we used for the light-shadow effect earlier. (Waste not i say!) Still up for debate obviously.
Well the ideas are there but to execute it we need a proper stage area with black background and a venue that let us off the venue lights to give us total darkness. sadly Malaysia never had that kind of venue/event for cosplay skits, so HOPEFULLY if given the chance we can execute this at AFA-regionals. HOPEFULLY. Otherwise this goes down into my 'ideas to execute' box for future use.
