Comic Fiesta 2011

The biggest yearly event in Malaysia is back again!! i missed it last year so i was pretty excited for this year's!! Especially since it's held at KL Convention Centre... so called Dream Venue for most (and myself).


PREPERATIONS BEFORE CF

We started around... 2 weeks before event? Mostly because we didn't have enough money for materials.....but bless us the winnings from Gempak helped a lot!

So i started and finished off making Galaxy Angels' Mint costume. The pattern seem easy but i don't have Ruffler-foot so i had to handmade the ruffles and poofy sleeves and gold lining.... overall took about 3~4 days. And Narukids helped me make my boot covers!! Thank u sooo much!!!


Yuan also worked on completing the collar of his Kuhn costume.


Then we started to work on both our Fire Emblem and Origami Cyclone costumes. We did parts of each others' costumes.



Yuan did my helmet n shuriken. Isn't it fabulous?! Don't have pics of the rest of WIP since we were rushing like mad!!!

Oh yea we learn the hard way.... that if leather glue is drying up on our skin, IT BURNS. IT BURNS REAL BAD!!! yep.... we MASO ppl.


COMIC FIESTA DAY 1

Very uneventful day. In the late morning we rushed to event to see CRAZY QUEUE LINES outside the hall. I was so glad I have the 'Group Cosplay Contestant' immunity tag or i would have joined the queue. The competition is ... nothing much lol~ we didn't manage to practice at all so we all trollolol all the way. U can see the video here altho the angle/position is not in the middle.

Yuan's Kuhn a.k.a the fabulous Cock-Head.

However, after the competition at hall 5, we went to hall 4 to chill, and that's when some shit happened. Not sure of the details, but the entrance and exit doors were closed for hours? Technically we were locked up in the hall. Doing nothing. Until late evening we were 'released' which by then i just went to buy some doujin stuff at Hall5 and then went home all tired and fed up with the whole situation.


COMIC FIESTA DAY 2

A lot of ppl assumed i'm entering the solo cosplay competition... I'm NOT!!! i'm just tired ok. We came really early because i read in the CF Forum the parking fee is flat rate RM10 if we park before 8.30am. And so we just chilled and waited for our Tiger & Bunny to assemble. I WANTED to photobomb people BUT apparently the hall was so obscenely crowded and my costume parts kept being knocked off by the crowd. So i didn't. Forgive this useless person oh my Sponsors!!! Anyway, the team manage to completely group up around 2pm, where we had a quick photoshoot n videoshoot (will update the blog later when it comes out). Then i admit defeat, changed to normal attire.

The costume was my first time making armour-ish stuff. Both costumes were 100% handmade by me and Yuan. All the sewing n the glueing of the leather, vynil, foam... and wearing it.... AGHFZZZ it is the MOST UNCOMFORTABLE thing. i really don't see the fun of armour. U won't be seeing me as a Gundam anytime in the future. But for the moment it was nice to cosplay Origami Cyclone. Onwards to pic-spam.

It was awesome to be part of cosplay groups!! I rarely get invited because i'm not exactly a Moe-moe-kyun person. So i wanna thank you all for letting me be part of the team!! I love you all a lot!!! 1 old anime and 1 new anime... my fandom is really balanced, don't you think?

This year's CF i managed to meet up with Jinxie, K and Aly whom i met when i went to WCS Japan last few months. It's good to see them crazies again!!! *love lots* Hopefully we can meet again in the future. Also randomly met a Blue Rose which we dragged into our team LOL nice to meet u!!!

The year 2011 coming to a close. Will be doing one last cosplay at the New Year's Party. And then onward to another new year full of fun, laughter, and frills. I'm still trying to balance my love for lolita outfits and cosplay. They both cost a lot! And since i now have a lil experience with armour-making, Yuan suggested me to finally do that Saber cosplay that i have been postponing to make for many years due to lack of self confidence!!! Ah~ hope can do it well.

Oh btw... the RM10 parking fee WAS A CHEAT A LIE!!!! After CF, we went to chill at our friend's hotel room... and by the time we got back, the parking fee was RM40!!!! AAAGHH!!! i am so frustrated and broke and shitz!

Gempak Cosplay Competition 2011

It's been a long time since i last join a Gempak event competition. Particularly because of the crazy venue. But i decide to give it a shot this year because... reason 1) Yuan didn't manage to cosplay Kuhn at AFA, so she wants to do it this time and need a girl-to-flirt to help out, reason 2) want to debut cosplay my Remillia Scarlet together with my sister Flandre Scarlet (who in the end didn't manage to come *crai*), reason 3)... some extra $ wld help out our CF cosplay projects.

So we brave the hellish crowd n hellish venue this year. But it's not FUN enough, so decided to add another reason. Reason 4) ...


one fine day in the car:

Sky: Let's make a deal!
Me: What deal?
Sky: If either of us win Gempak thing, let's watch Twilight (Breaking Dawn)!!!
Me: ....................... I DON'T WANNA WIN ANYMORE FUCK THIS SHIT.

Honestly, it's just a passing by trollolo comment. But somehow when we arrive at the event EVERYBODY KNOWS ABOUT IT and wouldn't let the matter rest. I find it really amusing!

My costume's quite comfortable, but my wings are so space consuming. It was hard for me to move in the crowd (didn't expect the need to repeatedly move from CF booth n backstage) and Yuan's Kuhn hair construction got a little mistake and she was in pain *hugz*. Bad choices... what were we thinking ?! idk... sorry everyone!!!


I gotta say IT LOOKS FABULOUS though~!!!!

I got into the Finals though and Yuan didn't. Not exactly what i imagined/planned but oh well.... we decided to just continue the trolling with Twillight-centric shitz for our skit. We were given a theme each to make a skit, and mine was 'romance'.

BTW since ppl asked, the costume was tailored from Taobao.com (along with the rest of my Touhouvania team). I did not make that crazy costume! I only fix n add about 20% of the costume (because Taobao never got anything perfectly correct). This would be the last time i'll cosplay Remy for a competition/event.

Anyway i won the 2nd runner up prize. Hellboi n zombienurse (Zend+Hani) won the consolation. The Joker won 1st runner up and the trolling cowboi Mario (Eddie) won grand prize. Damn u Eddie u r way too good as Mario, how many time u won already? 5 at least right? Damn awsm u.


Anyway after i changed out of costume, i browsed around the Gempak event. i really love the tiny room displays of each artist/comic!!! Very creative things! Other wise, there's nothing much to look at (coz the only Gempak artist i like is Juice). I also manage to see my 'atok' Deidara who just got back from Aussie~ he gave me reflective thing for my costume n Cat book. Tenkiu Santa Dei!!!

I was happy at 1st, when I get to test drive my Kuhn's wig before CF...
& then I went into sorrow, when Sky said if we win we have to watch Twilight.....
I was relieved when I didn't get into finals, but depressed when they announced Sky did......

I WAS DOWN RIGHT BLESSED when she said she's not going to buy tickets for the movie......
BUT WAS HT BY ULTIMATE TORTURE when she bought a Twilight DVD......

My tortures starts at 9:16:40pm, & finally ended at 11:01:31pm.

Yep!! Breaking Dawn is awsm in all things BAD and CORNY and NASTY. I enjoyed it!

RCC @ AFA 2011

When Venus & Blur won RCC-Malaysia Prelims, i couldn't be more excited! Because i know the partnership-bond between these 2 are really strong and Venus are one of the admirable cosplayer here in Malaysia. And since they are allowed to have 2 helpers for the Finals in AFA, me n Yuan offered ourselves as helpers both for preparations and at the event. So the adventures begin.....



BEFORE LEAVING TO SINGAPORE

We had meetings to decide how to proceed. I can't stress enough that this Ouke no Monshou Project is the brainstorm and work of Venus herself and no other! She comes up with the idea and the way of execution, and i'm happy to oblige and put my trust and faith on whatever she aims to do. We only did very little of help with props-making and audio-recording. Sometimes ... actually a lot of time.... some moral support and encouragement. There were too many time that they had to go through some bullshits from organization.

AFA DAY ON SATURDAY

Our train from KL to Singapore arrived at 8am on Saturday. Only Me n Yuan traveling together using our own money since helpers don't get any perks or help from organizers. That's fine by us. But we don't even get a free entry pass.... so decided to just walk around Singapore till nightime.

We went to Spotlight and some bookstores to get Chuang Yi publishing English manga. When to restaurants here n there some icecream and such. Bought Yuan a replica of some 14th Century gun for our Steampunk cosplay next year. And then we walked around Bugis for some clothes shopping! I so totally love Bugis there's a lot of Mori styled outfits with lace and skirts galore i was in high heaven!!! Ended up i fell for and bought some tartan lolita-ish outfit. By evening i was solid broke and tired and drenched in the rain so we head to AFA venue. Hang out with some friends outside the hall.

We promised to meet up with Venus n Blur at 9pm for their rehearsal practice. It got a bit draggy and the rehearsal only starts about 11pm? Nothing much happened, we were testing out the projector screening and lighting parts, each team gets 2 rounds, and the rehearsal ended about 3am. Me and Yuan (after much difficulty) finally manage to get some sleep at a backpackers hostel at 5am.



AFA DAY ON SUNDAY

Competition day!!! We were so damn tired but after putting on costume and whatnots, manage to get backstage around 11am. I was quite shocked about the place where all the cosplay teams were DUMPED at for preparations. It's at some corner alleyway, outside a locked toilet, with NO LIGHTS. And getting into the hall and backstage is such a big problem. We were given tags that says RCC on it BUT when we show it to the guards guarding the entrances, THEY DIDN'T EVEN KNOW ANY COMPETITION IS BEING HELD hence everytime we had to make phonecalls to someone already inside to come outside and to confirm that the pass is LEGIT and we can ENTER. It happened too many many times.

The competition went smoothly enough. I was given the task of standby-ing the PA system and help with the stage props construction and transportation whenever i can. Me n Yuan used every single knowledge that we gained at our WCS experiences this time in helping out and supporting Venus & Blur, physically, emotionally and everything else. And happy to do so. I cried a bit when it's all done oh dang such a relief!! i spent most of my time in AFA backstage and didn't get to mingle much with friends but I AM HAPPY. and PROUD OF OUR TEAM.

I find Team Malaysia's performance damn superb!! Original and dramatic. All our hardwork~ You can view the performance video HERE. There are many other versions of it in youtube.


Me n Yuan left on a bus to KL at 8pm on that same day (because we're too broke to overnight). ^^ Venus and Blur left on Monday.


PERSONAL THOUGHTS


On Sunday we were cosplaying Remillia and Sakuya from Tohouvania, upon request by our friends. Not many nice pics or any pic at all since we're too busy running around backstage. We'll have a proper Touhouvania shoot with the team later on.

And because we're backstage we kept bumping into the guests most of the time, mostly Aniki, Kaname and Usagi. I get to hug Kaname many time uwaaaa i'm so happy!!


Happy happy Dorky Fangurl YES!!!!

One of the main (actually the ONLY) reason i wanted to join RCC is because it has GIANT PROJECTED SCREEN FOR BACKGROUND AND LIGHTING SYSTEM I CAN PLAY WITH!!! There's no functions n tools like this in any cosplay competition in Malaysia. i was so excited when i get to play with projector screen and lights at Cosfest few months ago... but AFA's stuff is way more grand! And i'm itching to make use of it. So maybe in the future, if i get the chance and minus all the sideline cow-shitz. *prays*

I really like the Indonesian Team's performance. It was one of my dream skit to have something like that, to have the BG and cosplayer work together seamlessly for special effects! Nice work. Although i'm not a Kamen Rider fan. Also I love the song a hell lot it is so smex!!!

Anyway results are 1st) Philippines, 2nd) Thailand, and 3rd) Indonesia. Battle of the foam-armours and LEDs hoyeaaa~

Anyway i had a GREAT time helping out my friends and i don't mind doing it again and again. Cosplayers need to support and stick together more through thick and thin. Decrease all the inner battles and just enjoy this money n time and brain cell consuming hobby of ours called COSPLAY!!!


P/S .... a rage filled but true story note from my Partner Yuan. i suck at raging so i let her do this. Future Malaysian AFA contestants have to really brace themselves for next year.

AFA's Regional Cosplay Competition...RCC whatchamaycallitz

It all began when we submit our forms before due date like good little boys and girls we all are...

and we waited...

Indonesia n Thailand already announced their event date for prelims but no news of Malaysia... oh well let's just wait......

Really What?? You only knew about it too? WHAT?? You didn't even get notification? WHAT??? You're in Johor/Kelantan/anywhere else that takes a whole day to travel to KL and no way can drop everything n travel????!!

AFA trip this coming weekend

Yuan & I will travel to Singapore over the weekend. On Saturday we'll roam around the city for random shopping and getting some cosplay materials. That Saturday night and Sunday we'll be at the AFA venue, saikang-ing the RCC team-Malaysia backstage. Hopefully we'll get to meet n hv fun with friends a bit on Sunday!!! Gosh... i really wanna meet my idol Jin@tuxedo team but i know how crowded the place can be..... *sad* Everyone.... see u all at AFA!!

First time working with photographers Alex (from A.R.C photography) and Joseph Low. Really love working with them...very nice people! Alex likes to play with lighting and reflection technique. Joseph like to play with angles. Combined.... really cool stuff!!! Total respect for them!

PETSHOP OF HORRORS PHOTOSHOOT

Was done about 2 days ago. I wanted to do this shoot and let our WCS costumes rest in peace forever~

First time working with photographer Misao (from Hermanphotography). It was an indoor studio shoot and my first time doing it with props n all. Misao's equipment is so cool~ he'll take 1 snapshot and it'll upload directly on his MAC for quality check. And he works solo arranging his studio lighting equipments. And he's such a nice guy too! Impressive!


Tried my best to decorate with whatever little we have for that Chinese Shop feel....

Will do a proper post once the pictures have been post-processed. A lot of Happy Funny moments with friends. Photoshoot was done the day after Raya Haji beef-feast (bad timing?) so T-chan has to continually SUCK-IT-IN the bloaty tummy and Honlon was fighting stomach-ache and Mister Count having so much trouble having eye-lashes on his eye and no fat in his butt. Narukids and Cappy are way good at being director/producer. Good times really~


FUTURE PLANS

End of Nov there would be Gempak Cosplay Competition where me n Yuan are joining separately. Then December would be our college finals and Comic Fiesta!! Busy busy~

Anicom Week 3 and Hikki-moment-to-come

In a nutshell, Yuan won 2nd Place for Anicom week 3!!! Yay~!!! \o/ So proud of her!


Ok i admit the project started off as my request to want to do a skit based on my favourite song. The song is from Romeo & Juliet: The Musical. But Yuan worked hard on making the project happen... finishing her costume n dem Mad Hatter n pushing me to finish making mine. My perfect Break with his adorable Emily~ love u lots! *kisses* And thank you Ikki for being our ghetto kidnapper Vincent lol~

Our 'son' and his toiboi finally managed to beat us and won the 1st prize this time hahaha~ Congrats Xajin!! Your skit is sooo pan-awsm! Love it a lot! And thank you for lending us your sexy screams for our own skit teehee~ You can watch their Yakitate Japan video HERE!

And i wanted to highlight one of the skit i find really amazing!! I saw and truly understand what it means by LESS IS MORE through it. For some reason... my attention was focused on Oz with his very minimal yet so much feeling actions rather than the Will of the Abyss. (No i'm not biased towards characters) It's.... really unexplainable. But i want to try that in the future! For my future skits. Making veeeery little movements but veeery magnetizing nonetheless. *___* You can watch their Pandora Hearts video HERE!

Onwards to our next project! We plan to have a Pandora Hearts group shoot during my 1 week holiday later. Maybe PSOH too. Gawdz it has been AGES since I participated in a proper photoshoot! Also Yuan decided to use her winnings to fund our cosplay project for AFA comp. It's a very hard, crazy long shot attempting this, knowing the commercialized system/demands.... but what the heck. GOD OF SPARKLEZ, BLESS US!!! We shall ganbatte n do the crazy again! Also, 3 days AFA means 3 new costumes! We'll be hikkizz costume-making again for the next month+++

I'm back!!! with Animangaki, Anicom & maybe AFA?

Been a looong while since my last update, i know!! WCS-Japan in early August was a really hectic, crazy, inspiring, fun, TEBABO experience~!! i'm hoping to do a PROPER update on each day's experience, but it has to be done in the future when i could sit down properly and type it out.

Team Malaysia 2011 ehehehe~

Like i promised myself, i took about a month long of no-cosplay-moment after WCS to just... rest. Well... focus on studies mostly. My cosplaying routine starts again last weekend (10/9) at Animangaki, where we (closet) cosplayed as mukuro-chrome from Katekyo Hitman Reborn, while judging for the solo cosplay competition.



The next day we joined Anicom! It's a small-scale cosplay competition that i love to join every year because contestants are free to do weird crazy stuff there HAHAHAHA~!!!


So i joined because i want to try some new concept in performance that we never tried before..... dragging Yuan as my helper. But some accidents happened and the skit got kinda screwed Q^Q ... But anyway here's a video of our skit if u wanna watch!

This weekend it's Yuan's turn to join Anicom, and i'll be helping her! \o/ Another new skit concept we want to try out. Hope it goes well!

After this we will be working on our costumes for Anime Festival Asia. Apparently the AFA Cosplay Competition format just came out and the rule n dateline is very WTF.... again... but since we're crazy ppl.... well... prepare for trouble and make it double... again.
